The Weather And Forest School

Today, I’m going to be looking at The weather and Forest School.
Ah the great British weather! Where would we be without a winter heat wave, a beast from the east, and a monsoon like summer? Oh and not forgetting the hose pipe ban despite it raining existentially since mid august?
Forest School goes ahead in all weathers expect two types which I will get into a little more shortly. However don’t even bother asking the questioning are we still going ahead in this?
It’s Spittin’! Everybody in!
The Leaders answer will unanimously be yes. Don’t forget, these weird people, myself included, love and crave being outdoors. You’re child is attending the wrong club if you think we all head over to the church hall for tea and cake at the first drop of rain!
Because of course rain, sun, hail, snow, the cold and low winds provide such incredible play opportunities and learning experiences on how to manage oneself and self regulate meaning the ability for your child to monitor and manage their energy states, emotions, thoughts, and behaviours in ways that help them in their environment. This could be as simple as knowing when to put a jumper on if they feel cold.
Children actually adore being out in all weathers and it is proven again and again to provide such incredible developmental benefits to them. This is certainly not to say that your child will be outside in a wooded area without even the smallest possibility of shelter.
The Provision Of Shelter At Forest School
Forest School leaders carry a variety of sheltering options and can provide a fire in which to keep warm with. The most common sheltering option is a tarpaulin which is a large waterproof sheet, a little like a tent, that is strung between a few trees and forms a lovely waterproof canopy and indeed a wind break or sun shelter if positioned correctly.
The Forest leader also supplies goodies in the form of hot chocolate and snacks so children can battle against the weather whatever is thrown at them. They really will be looked after and their basic needs always met through the Forest School leaders keen eye.
Spotty Otter
Of course though the only way to ensure your child stays warm and dry through it all is wearing the correct clothing. Clothing that is uniquely designed for your child. In this niche there is only one name I trust; Spotty Otter.
This specialist outdoor children’s clothing company cannot be beaten in any area. You’re little one will never want to wear anything else when they head out again and it will quickly become like a second skin. To get 4 free bonuses with any Spotty otter purchase head over to ecootter.co.uk today.
These Conditions Are The Ones Forest School Won’t Run In.
Now the only weather conditions a session won’t run, is when there are high winds or thunderstorms. I can hear you asking why’s that Mark?
Well with both the potential for injury from either falling tree or branch and potential of electrocution from the tree roots during a thunderstorm puts children and the leader into unnecessary risk and risk that cannot be lowered or prevented in anyway.
Therefore it is great importance for the safety of your child.
It is always a rubbish call to make as ultimately all leaders and children want to be out in the woods, but safety always comes first at Forest School.
Remember You’re Just One Session Away.
