Sit Down Sunday’s — Spotty Otter

Forest School Secrets

This week I was fortunate enough to sit down and briefly chat with marketing and brand manager, Indy from children’s outdoor clothing brand Spotty Otter.

Both Spotty Otter and I have worked together over the last couple of years and our conversation was a really enjoyable and worthwhile catch up in the midst of the pandemic.

During the episode we spoke about the difference between a job and a career, the importance of dressing children well for the outdoors and Spotty Otters role in this, the fundamentality of nature connection in our lives and it’s related effect on mental wellbeing, Spotty Otters overall thoughts on the Forest School movement and how the current pandemic may effect children in the near future.

I found this chat to be incredibly meaningful not only in terms of the role Spotty Otter plays in equipping children perfectly for the outdoors but because of some of the unscripted thoughts that were raised.

Ideas around the importance of nature connection in our lives, the mental wellbeing of our children and indeed the current pandemics effect when related to grief and lose for children.

These notions I feel need deeper exploration in forthcoming discussion as they warrant such magnitude.

I don’t feel I would be able to justify their importance in a short 2 or so minute video or podcast.

This conversation also repeated to me why I have chosen to blog, podcast and record videos, not only to inform parents of what I mentioned a moment ago but to ensure that the movement’s aims, objectives and valuable input into children’s lives are made crystal clear for parents in an attempt to clean up the muddied waters that surround the movement.
