Do Forest Schools Need Insurance?

Forest School Secrets

Today I’m looking at the questions do Forest Schools need insurance?

The short answer is yes, yes they do.

What we get up to in the forest carries a degree of risk.

Now, remember risk is good. Hazard is bad.

The risk we work with has great learning potential and the harm factor of these activities, such as tool use or fire is limited through specific procedures to ensure the safety of our learners.

However, because risk is still somewhat present, aswell as the potential for and accidents, yeah they can happen, insurance is necessary to compensate an individual should anything go so far wrong that someone gets seriously hurt.

I would say this is highly unlikely but the world we live in dictates we need to think about the worst possible case scenario and work back from there, which is fair enough particularly where children are involved.

Truer still is that we are using an unpredictable and ever-changing environment such as the outdoors and are surrounded by trees that somewhat have their own agenda.

Now, I use a specialist Forest School orientated company that also includes public liability insurance and would encourage any other Forest School leader to do the same.

I won’t name as I’m not an affiliate of theirs, however, they have seen me well over the last 3 years of being qualified and I would recommend them highly.

If you’re a Forest School leader and you’re searching for some insurance, I’ll be happy to let you know the name of the company so you too can get started.
